The Sisters of St. Benedict in developing “Benedict’s Garden” continue to respond to the call of society and the economic challenges to restore the land and produce healthy all natural vegetables and fruits that sustain our children and families in the surrounding neighborhood; as well as outreach to our neighborhood schools and refugees. Through this process we are educating all who come, to value healthy lifestyles that give all of us a brighter future, a caring society, and a place where children and families can share in a community. Benedict’s Garden includes a half mile track that encourages exercise and a safe environment for children, families and elderly. Our continued support of food banks will assist in the response to the children and families who are hungry and in need of healthy vegetables and fruits.
The outreach to refugees in search of acceptance, a new home, renewed life, and good health has blessed our land with an expanded vision that will assist them in learning to farm in the dessert, providing food for their families and potential jobs to sustain their families’ livelihood. Creating an opportunity for a world vision of caring, and knowledge of cultures, respect, and support gives Benedict’s Garden a broader vision for all who participate in this community garden.
Benedictines, since their inception more than 1,500 years ago, have always had a relationship with the land, a respect for nature, and a value for the integration of the spiritual and nature. Benedictines incorporate hospitality to people of all faiths, cultures and nationalities thus Benedict’s Garden incorporates the charism of hospitality for all who enter.
