Our Lady of Guadalupe Monastery
Benedictine Art
The arts have always been a traditional part of Benedictine life, as chapter 57 "Of the Craftsman of the Monastery," in the Rule of Benedict clearly attests. In Benedictine tradition, art in the community has been fostered as serving a spiritual need.

St. Benedict admonishes, "let them exercise their crafts with all humility and reverence." (RB57).The work of the scribe has a long history that includes not only copying of scripture but also illuminating the pages with icons and decorative flourishes.
