Sister Lydia Armenta celebrated ten years in Perpetual Vows on May 2nd, 2010

She entered the community in October of 1993 as an affiliate. Sister Lydia made her first profession in 1995. Sister Lydia has been involved in a variety of ministries through out her religious life at Our Lady of Guadalupe Monastery. Sister began and directed our daycare program which began in 1993.

Since the closing of the daycare, Sister studied and graduated from the Hesychia School of Spiritual Direction at Picture Rocks Retreat Center in Tucson where she received her certification in Spiri-tual Direction.

Sister Lydia is a Spiritual Director at the Monastery and for the Cursillo Movement in Phoenix.
Sister Lydia serves as secretary on the Diocesan Vocation Com-mittee and assists in the retreats and gatherings for those discern-ing a vocation to religious life. In addition, Sister Lydia is the coordinator for scheduling all of the retreats at the Monastery Retreat Center.

She loves to garden and takes great joy in the rose gardens. One of her newest pro-jects is completing the labyrinth in the middle property. As you can see by the picture to the left, great progress has been made on this project.

Sister Lydia is an artist and loves creating in chalks, oils, and varieties of mediums.
When children are at the Monastery for a visit, it is not unusual to find them with Sister Lydia in the craft room discovering their own talents under her direction.

Monastic Week Scheduled for July 11th to 17th

The 2nd annual Monastic Week will be Sunday, July 11th through Saturday, July 17th. This experience proved to be very positive for all of the participants as well as the Monastery community.
Women, 21 and older [single, married, widow, divorced] in good health are invited to spend the week with the community. During this experience participants will join us for prayer, work with us in the Monastery, and study...participating in the life of the community as we live it each day. Last year 17 women participated in this experience learning about Benedictine life. St. Benedict’s call to listen and to incorporate balance into daily life as a religious and as a single or married woman in today’s world is just as relevant today as it was more than 1500 years ago.

There will be presentations on the Benedictine charisms, an overview of the Rule of Saint Benedict, explanations of the various memberships to this community, with time for reflection and recreation. INTERESTED? Check us out! We would love to share our life with you. The program will begin with registration at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 11th and be completed at noon on July 17th. To register: Call Sr. Lydia at 623-848-9608.
